Weather in Cyprus – Cypriot Climate

Cyprus is a warm and inviting island nation in many ways, drawing visitors for various reasons, with its favourable climate being a significant attraction. Like many Mediterranean countries, Cyprus experiences warmer temperatures, particularly along its southern coast where most of the tourist destinations are situated. Cyprus is divided into six administrative districts – Nicosia, Limassol, Larnaca, Paphos, Famagusta, and Kyrenia.

The majority of tourists and property investors flock to the coastal regions, so we will focus on those areas for weather and climate reports.

Cyprus enjoys around 340 days of sunshine per year, with warm springs, hot summers, and mild winters. Despite the common belief that Cyprus has no distinct seasons, it does experience them. However, the climate is typically Mediterranean, characterized by plenty of sunshine, mild temperatures in winter, and limited rainfall.

The Southern Coast – Limassol, Larnaca, and Paphos The average air temperature along the southern coast ranges from 10°C in winter to 31°C in summer. During winter, the sea temperature averages around 16°C, while in summer, it rises to approximately 27°C.

The Eastern Coast – Ayia Napa and Protaras The average air temperature along the eastern coast varies from 12°C in winter to 32°C in summer. Sea temperatures in this region range from around 17°C in winter to 28°C in summer.

The summer season in Cyprus spans from May to October, with the peak months being June, July, August, and September, offering maximum sunshine and the hottest temperatures. However, if you prefer milder weather for outdoor activities and sightseeing, consider visiting in April, May, or October.
