Guide to Villamartin

Villamartin is located in Costa Blanca in mainland Spain it offers picturesque views and inviting sandy beaches where you can relax and enjoy quiet afternoons. The small traditional village with central squares and narrow streets filled with colourful flower pots are delightful. The heart of the Costa Blanca is Alicante this historic city is a must see with the palm-fringed promenade and the fabulous yacht marina with a wide range of top-notch shops and upmarket bars and restaurants and the old city is enchanting to take a stroll around. The old town of Orihuela is home to its baroque styled cathedral and its market garden makes for a pleasant day out. The Villamartin area covers 210 sq km (81.1 sq miles) and with good transport links it’s easy to get around.

The main bus service in Villamartin takes you to a vast range of different areas, you can travel by bus to the nearest large town of Torrevieja and from the main bus station there, the rest of Spain is just a bus ride away. Villamartin is the name of both an urbanisation and a golf course in the Costa Blanca area of eastern Spain; it lies west of the popular town of Torrevieja. It is in the municipality of Orihuela, in the province of Alicante in the Valencian Community.

This is the where the golf enthusiasts are in heaven and keen golfers who love the game visit this area all of the time. This popular golf course is located to the south of Alicante on the coastline of Costa Blanca which is often referred to as the “white coast” and is less than a one hour’s drive away from Alicante airport. There are two 18 hole golf courses so you will be spoilt for choice along with Club de Golf Villamartin is the newer Las Ramblas de Orihuela both of these excellent golf courses offer challenges for every level of player.

If you want to travel further afield you will find numerous championship golf courses within one hour’s drive of Villamartin for a splendid day out and all have excellent and facilities. The nearest airport to Villamartin is Alicante, daily international flights arrive there and the transfer from the airport to Villamartin is less than one hour. The climate is of course typically Mediterranean with an average year-round temperature of 18-20° C and 300 days of sun every year it’s understandable why holidaymakers and locals flock here to bask in the sunshine.

Although Villamartin is slightly inland that doesn’t detract from it’s naturally beautiful surroundings of lush palm trees and pretty village squares where you can sit and watch the world go by at one of the many cafes, bars and restaurants. All the usual shops are in the square along with a bank and supermarket. There are numerous Blue Flag awarded beaches nearby with white or golden sand perfect for that lazy day soaking up the sunshine and its ideal for families, couples and groups of friends who are looking for a laid back or a cosmopolitan lifestyle. Villamartin is an old town, rich in history which has been traced back as far as prehistoric times. Archaeologists believe that it can be dated back to 5th century B.C. The Romans inhabited the area and built several roads and many artefacts dating to the Roman times have been excavated.

One of the main reasons tourists’ visit Villamartin is due to the restaurants and the nightlife, some of the best food on the Costa Blanca is served up there and after dark the live music venues come to life.
