Bodrum has been included in a TripAdvisor list of 10 stunning destinations around the world that are on the rise, highlighting the resort’s growing status as a leading international tourist destination.
The world’s largest travel website highlighted how Bodrum has been transformed from a cosy fishing village into one of Turkey‘s most popular vacation hotspots. It added that writers, intellectuals, artists and musicians have had homes in Bodrum for many years, giving rise to “a vibrant cultural scene paralleled only by the town‘s nightlife. Meanwhile, its “windswept beaches and glittering waters provide the backdrop to the perfect beach getaway”.
Alongside Bodrum on the Bodrum Peninsula are a string of chic marina resorts, home to some of Turkey’s most desirable holiday homes and popular with the international jet set. The area’s sailing heritage is most evident in the famous Bodrum Cup, a traditional yacht regatta organized by Era Bodrum Sailing Club that takes place every third week of October.
This year the Bodrum Cup is in its 27th year and includes races across to the Greek island of Leros via the marina resorts of Yalikavak, Gumusluk and the town of Bodrum.
Primarily for promoting Bodrum’s local yacht charter fleet, the famous event is also a party celebrating the end of the annual cruising season. As well as bringing together charter ‘gulet’ boats, privately owned yachts are also invited to participate in the Bodrum Cup. This makes October an exciting time to be in the Bodrum Peninsula, especially if you have your own home or boat there!
